Christ-mas: A Call for More of Christ

Christ-mas: A Call for More of Christ

Have you ever paused to reflect on the word Christmas? It literally means "more of Christ." What if we took that meaning to heart—not just during the holiday season but throughout the year? Imagine homes filled with more of Jesus in our hearts, conversations, relationships, priorities, and intentions. Imagine Christ at the center of everything we do, all year long.

This Christmas, how can you bring more Jesus into your celebrations? How can you become a beacon of His light and share His love with those around you?

Shine His Light

Jesus calls us to be His light in the world.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16

This season, consider how your actions can reflect His light. How do you want to remember this Christmas when you look back years from now? Will it be about the gifts under the tree, or the moments that brought joy, love, and meaning?

Christmas Reminders: What Truly Matters

In a world that often focuses on competition and materialism, let’s shift our priorities. Christmas isn't about having the best decorations, the most elaborate gifts, or a picture-perfect celebration. Instead, it’s about connection, intention, and sharing the love of Christ.

Here are a few truths to hold onto:

  • It’s not a competition.
  • Memories outlast material things.
  • The thought, heart, and love behind what you give is what people cherish.
  • Everyone wants to feel seen and valued. How can you give that gift to someone this year?

Years from now, people may not remember the gifts they unwrapped, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.

Gifts That Last

Not all gifts come wrapped in shiny paper. In fact, the most meaningful gifts often aren’t things at all. Here’s a list of ways to give from the heart:

  • Jesus: Share His love, His story, and His presence.
  • Your Story: Share your testimony or what God is doing in your life.
  • Laughter and Joy: A genuine laugh or a shared moment can brighten someone’s day.
  • Kindness and Patience: These simple acts can reflect God’s grace.
  • Memories and Moments: Create time to connect and make someone feel valued.
  • Encouragement and Prayer: A listening ear or heartfelt prayer can be life-changing.
  • Invitations: Invite someone to church, to your home, or to experience fellowship.
  • God’s Word: Share a meaningful Bible verse or a worship song.

These gifts aren’t just for Christmas—they’re expressions of Christ’s love that we can give every day.

Reflecting on the Reason for the Season

Christmas is a celebration of God’s greatest gift: the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ. Take time this season to reflect on the miracle of His coming:

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.
Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and shall call his name Immanuel.”
— Isaiah 7:14

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
— Isaiah 9:6

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us so that we could experience the fullness of His grace, truth, and redemption.

A Season to Share His Love

This Christmas, let’s strive to embody the true meaning of the season. Be intentional about sharing His light, His love, and His hope. Let’s make this a season to remember—not for the things we gave or received, but for the ways we reflected Christ in our lives and to those around us.

How will you bring more of Jesus into your Christmas this year? How will you let His light shine through you?

“Every good gift, every perfect gift, comes from above. These gifts come down from the Father, the creator of the heavenly lights, in whose character there is no change at all.”
— James 1:17

May your Christmas be filled with the joy of Christ and the gift of His unchanging love.
